Questions of a New Mom

As a person who not only dislikes making decisions, but also has a very difficult time making them, I sometimes wonder why there are SO MANY options for the simplest things in life. What kind of pen: ball point, fine tip, felt tip, gel, ink, paint; what color? Mouse traps: wooden, plastic, mutilators, gentle killers.

Baby supplies.

It all started before he was born. A simple thing like a car seat. Now really, they all serve the same purpose. But the dilemma started when I had to decide whether I wanted a seat/stroller combo. After a much longer than necessary debate between myself me, I went with the stroller. That was among the many pre-baby decisions.

But then came the formula. So many different brands. and each brand has its own brand. and each of those and sensitive baby, soy, organic, and each comes with its own unique smell, both in the can and in the baby.

(if you look REALLY close, you get a sneak peak of the husbands latest project)
Baby food.

I am the girl you see standing in the same isle...in the same place....for 15 minutes, trying to act like I belong there, but sweating profusely and having a nervous breakdown because I might pick the wrong thing.

Now, I knew there were all kinds of options like carrots, peas, squash, applesauce, and many other assorted fruits and veggies. I didn't even realize there was baby cereal, which is a whole different story. But what blew my top was when I found out baby food includes things like ham, fish, and other meats that shouldn't come mashed up in a jar. This is all coming from the girl who never changed a diaper until her boy was a week old. Diapers. There's another 5 billion gazillion choices. Not to mention the wipes.

Oh dear.

Well, I found out how the boy likes ...wait. You guess what he's eating. And if he likes it.

And we found out how we like pan seared lemon tilapia with Parmesan pasta. We liked it.
Dinner. That's a whole different class of decision making.

I have realized

1.Filipino food really doesn't look very appetizing.

(tortang talong)
2. Filipino food doesn't photograph very well.

(chicken curry)
But, despite what it looks like, it was delish.

Last weekend was my birthday. We met aunti, cousins, uncle, and Grandma for lunch and play and the park.

We went to the lake to bathe in the sun.

Tyson made me two fabulous dinners (see above) and he is working on another awesome project (pictures to come)

AND yesterday I made these tasty oatmeal banana chip muffins. YUM.

So as you can see, we are happy and full.

home sweet home

Thursday our mini-mountain man tried on his winter hat and mittins. Why you might ask? We were going camping!! He wanted to be prepared for cold mountain nights.

We packed up our barometric pressure guage and headed out.
We got to our campground just before dark. As we lay in bed that night, all three of us, we listened to the booming thunder and the steady beat of the rain pounding against our cozy little trailer. "Boy am I glad we have a trailer" I thought as the rain continued to grow stronger. Stairing up though our beautiful little skylight above our bed, I slowly started to doze off. But as I did so, I felt the slightest splash of cold on my forehead. Tired, I ignored it for a short time. Deciding I should check on the boy one last time, I reached my hand up to find not only his soft, chilled little face, but also a puddle of water growing larger right next to it. The big mountain man and I quickly adjusted to pull the soundly sleeping little mountain man away from the faucet that had been turned on above our heads. Slightly less comfortable, we all settled back down and waited for sleep to come over us. As I lay there, I had a familiar feeling. Deja vu if you will. That feeling continued to grow stronger, as I realized that section of window was now leaking. Before I could sit up to re-readjust, I felt it lower, at my feet. Yes, indeed, the entire window had started leaking. Lucky for us we have a few extra beds, so as I curled up against the wood panel wall with my little one, Tyson moved to the bunk bed. Now we could sleep.

After a long wet night, we woke up and prepared for the day. Rogan lay bundled up from the cold weather as his dad prepared us a delicous breakfast of blueberry pancakes.

And I took advantage of the quiet to read as Tyson headed out on his dirtbike for a few hours.
The day went by as well as another, less wet, night. The next morning we packed a few necessities and headed up the road on the 4 wheeler. Although a bit windy, Rogan enjoyed the long ride in the sun. He even managed to get a few naps in.
So in all of this, Rogan taught us a valuable lesson. Even in the middle of summer, always be prepared.
